Fred, do you know if the cases are going to have two cars each or are they going to be assorted? I know 2/case had been suggested to Mattel so collectors could split cases. gunslinger gary wilcox

Thats the new "Custom '56 Ford Pickup" casting, It showed up in 2007 in the Ultra Hots, and also in "Classics" series 5 last year.

No as a consultat, The Drag Strip Demons Series was my first project and there are lots more coming. The crew there now is from back in the day of the mid 90's.

If you look at Larry's Garage, Classics, and Drag Strip Demons to just start the year, you will see some GREAT castings and seperation of lines.

Fred ... is there more than one casting per state?

I bought hawaii today ... and it was the blue Manx.

sorry to say ... for me ... mattel's credibility with finishing out a HW series is zero. they change staff too often ... don't follow up ... and communicate poorly with the collector community. they need an ambassador system like MB to re-connect.

I am definitely in agreement with your experience that Mattel has difficulty finishing series.
However, with the first assortments reportedly being 1-model per case, I would have to say
that Mattel is learning from past experience. Previously, the first assortments would be
overloaded with multiples of each model and that would clog up the retail system. Unless
a certain amount is sold, the retailer will not re-order.

Many collectors will buy one of each when they are available and BAM! There's a whole
case sold.

I must say that the line is priced to sell. You get a nice looking model even though it is
really just a basic model. You get a collecting/connecting cube in which to display the model.
Finally, if you choose to buy the series, it makes a fantastic presentation.

I would bet that this line will sell very well! I can't say that the Military/Cop/Fire Rods will
enjoy the same success.

I'm not so sure they've learned. in addition to the single packs, there were 2 different sets of 3-packs on the pegs. all with the same cars as the single packs.

I hope the series does well. it would be nice to see some families collect them as a "joint venture". but $150+ is a lot of "coin" in these times. I probably would have signed on if they had RR's.

Wow! Thank you Mattel for remember a true pioneer of American racing, my Grandpa, Briggs Cunningham, and his C4R sports car. I was sort of surprised that the car was listed for the state of Connecticut.

He built the cars in Palm Beach, Florida. His cars won at Daytona Beach (when it was a beach) and at the 12 hour endurance race at Sebring.

His favorite race course however, was at Lime Rock, CT., and he lived in CT for most of his life. His impact on American racing is substantial. His production cars were few. He built less than 50 for the American public to purchase. Understandable, since very few people could afford an $8,000 car in the early 1950's.

Thanks again! If you have any more, please let me know. My children would love them as a memorabilia of their Great-Grandfather.

David, the 57 Chevy is Arkansas. I saw one in a three pack at a Wal-Mart. I was tempted to get it but the tampos were crappy! I mean not the art work but they were applied crappy! Some of the tampo was missing/faded out looking...not good at all. I'll wait for it in a single and see if I get a good one . I want it and the West Virginia one, which is the 58 Impala.

First off, featherhead, WELCOME! I'm a big fan of the history of things and to see you posting here is great. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to see you post some history of your Grandfather. There's an "Off Topic" section here if it's not directly related to diecast, and I'm guessing you'd be able to post an interesting read about an obviously historic racing figure. Another thing that's nice to see. I'm MUCH happier with the way the LWG and Connect Cars are hitting.
