This Grand Prix today was mighty fun to watch - very entertaining! 6 different Ferrari's started the race and not a single one scored a single point by races end. This is the first time this has happened in many years I hear. I have a question about race cars in general... What type of race car is all around fastest? International Grand Prix? Formula One? CART series? American Indiananpolis 500 style - not sure of the series name here. American NASCAR - Nextel, Winston Cup, Busch, etc... If one of each of these was put on a track like the Daytona 500 Track (2.5 miles big track) who would go the fastest? Are there tracks out there larger than 2.5 miles? They have included such cars in the past as the Audi R8 (currently-I think this makes up the majority of the cars), the Cadillac LMP, and the Mercedes CLK-LM. I think Formula One cars would probably be the all around fastest cars. A whole ton of factors come into play when it comes to which car is fastest on which track. Gear ratios, rev limiters, restrictor plates, etc., etc. Le Mans Prototype cars are wicked fast. "Protytype" is the class that the cars run in. The Audi R-8 and R-10(tubo-deisel powered!) Prototype has dominated road racing both in Europe and the US. An Audi R8 or R10 has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 7 out of the last 8 years. That car is a technical wonder, as are F1 cars. I'm somewhat of a novice on all this, but I hope I helped some. Others will have differing opinions and information. The track the 24 Hrs of Le Mans is run on is 8.48 miles long, in Le Mans, Sarthe France. The Nurburgring in Germany is 14 -16 miles long depending on how they configure it for a race. There's tons of other tracks all over the world, all of differing configurations and lengths. Posts: 724 (03/20/08 02:22 AM) A Passion 4 Passions Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Good question,how about adding the aussie V8 Super cars?I know we can top 300km/h,not bad for only 5 litre V8s limited to 7500rpm,all they are is rce car base around the normal Falcons and Commodores we drive.They make 640hp and weigh a hefty 1350kgs.With a diff ratio change Im sure we could give the NAscars a good run.Also raise our rev limit,I know for a fact that at 7500rpm limit,the power curve is still rising and they make power all the way to well over 9000rpm. Also speedway Sprint cars,they make well over 800hp and have killer acceleraction and on dirt to top it.

Posts: 10710 (03/20/08 12:21 PM) Diehard Diecast Collector Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	THERE ARE SO MANY FACTORS INVOLVED AND RESTRICTIONS APPLIED TO SLOW DOWN THE CARS...IT DEPENDS ON TRACK CONDITIONS AND MANY OTHER FACTORS...F-1 AND INDY STILE WOULD BE FAST IN SOME AREAS AND LEMANS TYPES WOULD BE FAST ON STILL OTHER CONDITIONS...ALL CARS WOULD HAVE TO BE SET UP SIMILAR TO MEET TRACK CONDITIONS...WEIGHT AND TIRES PLAY A FACTOR...TYPE OF FUEL USED...NO SURE WAY TO GET ONE STYLE OVER THE OTHER SINCE THEY ARE MADE FOR CERTAIN PURPOSES...AYE COLLECT FOR THE SURE FUN OF IT.

Sounds odd, but quick braking is just as important to speed as acceleration on road courses. but I would venture to say that in terms of overall speed F1 and IRL cars would be close with CART close behind. Then LeMans series, certain classes would be faster than NASCAR. It is really hard to tell how fast each of these cars actually is since nearly every one is heavily speed restricted. But hey, Aussie GP sure was an exciting start to the season. Upset Timo Glock didn't finish

IF, you add Drag Racing, it's a completely different game and higher top speed. Go one step further and clock a 2way, running 2miles at Bonneville Salt Flats to reach the top speed of all. "okie by choice"
