Mattel has tried a number of similar methods for increasing sales of a few "common mainlines." Some that come quickly to mind are the yellow cards at Walmart a couple of years ago and the same cars on exclusive cards at Target (like the Snowflakes). I suppose we could also include the store exclusive color variations. Most all of these involved some additional expense... new card art or different paint. However they hit a home run this time. Using a regular stock wheel they have sold thousands and thousands of additional castings without ANY additional cost. Brilliant on Mattel's part. Probably as brilliant as the Hunt/Super Hunt concept.
