Going to keep them simple single or two tone colors. and wheel swaps. I am debating in the paint to use. I am favoring the rattle can to air brush idea. The paint is already premixed and very cheap to buy. Is there any brands that are superior to others like krylon or dupla color. And for clear coat. What is the orefered method for a starter. Straight from the can? I stripped my first attempts and used gray primer on them. Is primer nesssary? Any idea's is greatly appreciated.

First of all, asking what paint to use is a lot like asking what kind of car to buy. LOL. Most customizers have their favorites and some are quick to tell you the one they use is the only one. I have seen contest winners painted with virtually every kind of paint except latex house paint and have seen latex house paint used for vinyl tops. and interiors. Many of the folks here will swear by paint, including the urethane clears, intended for real cars. Unquestionably they work well, but are pricey and can take some skill to use. (Some of them are extremely toxic and are not really intended for home use.... ones like duPont Imron that contains isocyanate. That's the stuff that killed all the people in Biphal sp India some years ago). I tend to personally like quality aerosols... not the Wal-Mart dollar stuff. I even use it in my airbrush cause it is already thinned for spraying. Over the years I have had the best contest results with Pactra, but have also used a lot of Duplicolor cause I got it free. The Tripple Thick clear from Wal-Mart appears to be one of the more popular clears. Have you checked the paint threads on the Customs Archives? Good luck. Any casting imperfections will show up w/ a new paint job. filing , sanding and polishing will bring a better end result. Remember to clean any stripper or other solvents from your casting before starting any painting process. Primer and the color of the primer will determine the shade or tone of the final paint. Try experimenting w/ different primers to get the results you want. Wet sanding in-between coats is also very important and the type of clear coat can make or break the final product. good luck!

Im not trying to influence your decision.. just telling you how i started out. Maybe if i had started out with a airbrush sooner i would be better at it than I am now (I am still using Dupli color truck and SUV clear coat (rattle can) with flawless results)

Toy Car Master Posts: 139 (07/21/08 06:38 PM) Certified Toy Nut Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	IN MY PERSONAL OPINION HOK IS THE MOST USER FRIENDLY PAINT TO USE OUT OF A AIRBRUSH PRIMER...I GET A VARIETY OR WHATS IN STOCK...MY FAV TO GET IS AMERICAN HERITAGE MADE BY VALSPAR BUT ITS OFTEN OUT OF STOCK SO I GET WHATS IN STOCK CLEAR..WHEN I USED CANS THE DUPLI COLOR WORKED THE BEST GOOD PREP WORK IS KEY TO A GOOD PAINT JOB AND NO PEELING WETSANDING BETWEEN COATS NEVER HURTS UNLESS YOU SAND DOWN TOO MUCH THAT IS BEST ADVICE ANYONE CAN GIVE YOU IS TO PRACTICE AND TRY NOT TO GET TOO FRUSTRATED WITH IT........ IT TAKES TIME TO GET YOUR "SYSTEM DOWN TO A SCIENCE"
