I'm cool with that, they have some legal reason. However, no one said I can't bag on policy--case in point, the newest sELECTIONs car. The casting is chosen, an original RL Open Fire. Color options are there, however, the ONLY wheel choise is new Redlines. I'm in the 'it must have redlines' group, but is it fair to others that NO OTHER wheel choice is available? Has the one last part of the corporate site now become a dicatorship? Where is the integrity of the votes? I know many at HWC will only accept the Neo RL's on classic castings--but limiting to only one choice reeks of socializing. I see a fast demise to something that was cool for the membership. If they want only one kind of wheel on this car, they should have just made it as a regular HWC car. Not one for the members to vote on. If they offered a choice of wheels, I feel that the relines would have still won. But then again, if RR's were offered, the rubberheads may have prevailed & it would not have done this casting any justice for it's first time release. They have had a dictatorship there for a few years now. So what they have done now is not a surprise.

Limiting the wheels ruins the selection process of any model. MB can't have an official collector club due to this self concocted deep rooted fear that MB is out to destroy HW. I can however say that this fear seems to still be present to this day. Now on to the corporate aspect of things seeing things from the inside looking out, Mattel likes to run a tight ship. You don't rise to the top of your feild based solely on making the best products out there. Their corporate resolve by far is unmatched by most Fortune 100 firms. Ever since Mrs, B. left them, their attitude has most definately changed. It has now tuned into a HWC vs RLC type civil war. RLC wants exclusivity to everything. The new Collector Chequelist now requires RLC membership to save, delete listing parts of the list. There was some loose talk being suggested that RLC should get first dibs at the KDay Cases. The one characteristic that has been lacking from the RLC is the belief that it was to be a club for 'original' cars as well as new updated exclusive product. The problem with votes is that we originals are outnumbered merely through attrition and population growth. Therefore in the selections process only numbers count. Its a great concept but when 'collectors of originals' are voting for original, it aint going to happen. The biggest case in point are the wheels as mentioned. Original castings weren't designed for modern 'fat' real rider wheels. So the whole premiss of "Hot Wheels", the fastest cars to race, was completely lost to the just display them crowd. Whether I race my RLC cars or not, I want original castings as original. I understand that the modern manufacturing process will dictate some change but 'dimmit' I want as close to the original as allowed. So, as a 'old' collector, I have a battle going against a younger and much larger crowd of new collectors who think they have all the answers. Mattel has some forsight of the problem and try as they may, they can never get it right for everyone. Thats OK! I'm good for maybe 8 - 10 more years. They'll bury me with a Bible in one hand and a HotWheel in the other. "okie by choice"

There are some cases were the real rider type wheel just does not belong. and yes there are cases were the neo wheels should not have been offered. do i feel it's a dictatorship ? well,no I don't however it is Mattels club and even though we members paid to join doesn't mean we get overall free reign. Are allof us going to like each and every offering presented to us ? probably not, case in point the buttfugly Hotbird ! and the Barracuda coming out. now, for the RRdiehardnothingelseinthisworldmattersfans why not petition for a pink,rsrr version of the open fire as the RLC car for the Nats next year ? That might look pretty cool !

"we think the first use of this retooled casting NEEDS to have original R/L's". their PR folks don't seem very good at PR sometimes. dave

Thus it has been my belief that certain cars and colors and wheel choices are set up to win or lose all the way thru. Just because members have been allowed to "select" the casting, color and wheel before, doesn't necessarily mean that has to be the case. As already mentioned, there are possible reasons why they chose to limit the wheel to the redline. I have a hunch they already have this casting in the works with RRs and didn't want the Selections car to compete with it. Though with Mattel, who knows? LOL. gunslinger gary wilcox

Plus they probably have a ton of these wheels to use up after doing the original run in mega quantities. Then like was mentioned before, it opens the doors for a later release as another higher priced LE or Convention Car in larger quantities with rubber tires. And since when has anything that Mattel done lately been considered fair...
